After parting ways with Cillian Quinn, Zev continued wandering the strange city. The architecture's familiarity continued to pester him as he walked, though he had never visited such a place before. Ignoring it, he swept his blue gaze over the surrounding crowds, looking for any other human faces—whether he recognized them or not. [break][break]

Eventually, he did find one such face. [break][break]

"Bee!" he called out to the admin, aware that he might seem like an illusion to the other man. After all, Zev was dressed in his usual black suit and tie, not the green uniform that he'd fallen asleep wearing. Neither mask nor Toxic Chain covered his head. [break][break]

"Do you recognize this place? I feel like I've been somewhere similar before."

Zev Harcourt's voice rang above the crowd, causing Barnaby's body to whip around toward the noise. Seeing the Beast in his everyday attire, not the atrocious garb they'd been forced to wear, was a momentary relief.[break][break]

"Doesn't the architecture look somewhat familiar?" The admin suggested once they'd reunited near the overhang of a neon-lit transit stop.[break][break]

"It reminds me of Lesser Megalopolis."[break][break]

With the sheer amount of Megalopolans milling about, BARNABY FINCH surmised that this larger cityscape was likely ULTRA MEGALOPOLIS. But why had they been spirited here? Why did their collective dream create this space and not something else?[break][break]

Before he expressed these questions aloud to Zev, Barnaby first felt the need to probe him for information. Though they were free from the binds of their TOXIC CHAINS and overbearing wardens, he stilled leaned in and covertly asked, "Have you learned anything?"

As soon as Bee mentioned Lesser Megalopolis, the puzzle pieces slotted together in Zev's head. Taking another glance around their immediate surroundings, he realized the buildings did indeed share the same prism-like architecture as the ruined city. [break][break]

"You're right," he commented, a slight furrow to his brow. "It's not exactly the same, though." [break][break]

Like Bee, Zev could only conclude it was an echo of Ultra Megalopolis. He recalled Velmos' explanation that many Megalopolans wished to restore their home to its former grandeur. Without Necrozma, were they relying on the wishes they believed the Toxic Chain could grant? [break][break]

The admin's question drew the Beast from his musings. [break][break]

"I met with Quinn before seeing you. He told me that while we were in the Chamber of Desires, the Weakling and Dummy Wards were sent into a basement level to clean it as punishment. A creature there kept attacking them, too. A Pokémon, I'm guessing." [break][break]

Cillian Quinn hadn't described the creature, but Zev had a feeling the Ugly Ward would find out for themselves sooner rather than later.

“So Cillian’s here too...” Barnaby trailed off, taking a moment to ponder the absurdity of it all. Eventually he spoke up again, concern furrowing his brow. “How many others, I wonder?”[break][break]

Attacking Pokémon aside, BARNABY FINCH wanted to know what players were on the board. If they were to escape this nightmare, they needed all the help they could get.[break][break]

“Jayden and Fern are bunked with me.” He offered. “Elisabeth's here too. And none of us have access to our Avatar powers. I’m assuming it’s the same for you.”[break][break]

After a beat, he continued, curious to see what else Zev Harcourt had found out.[break][break]

“If so many of Rocket’s upper brass are here, do you think they’ve imprisoned League officials too? I saw freya morningstar in our ward. There could be others.”

Zev had intended not to share the truth about his Avatar powers with anyone but Neffatari Nzingha, but when Bee offered up the information freely about himself, jayden cross, and fern delaney, the Rocket Beast knew better than to say otherwise. [break][break]

So he nodded, obvious frustration flashing across his face. "It's the same for me." [break][break]

Thankfully, mention of other League officials took the conversation elsewhere. [break][break]

"I saw John Sullivan and Navy with us, too. As for the other wards…" Zev shrugged. "For all we know, the rest of the Council and Elite Four might be imprisoned there. Miro, Connors, Silph…" [break][break]

As he trailed off, his gaze met Bee's. A recent conversation with Elisabeth Fiorelli, fueled by their encounter with MATIAS SILPH, forced its way to the front of Zev's thoughts. [break][break]

He cleared his throat. "Speaking of the Volatile, he knows who you are. Or at least, he thinks he knows what you look like."

Anger flashed across his face, white hot and barely contained. After all, he’d gone to painstaking lengths to conceal his ROCKET identity. MATIAS SILPH was aware of BARNABY FINCH, of course, but not Admin Bee – that’s how it should have been, at least. [break][break]

Zev had never seen such a face on Bee before. He took careful note of it before launching into his explanation. "I don't know exactly how, but I can tell you how I found out. In Area Zero last month, Underboss Fiorelli and I ambushed Silph and Lopez." [break][break]

It had been natural for MATIAS SILPH to recognize Elisabeth Fiorelli; after all, she'd gotten close to him to carry out the Red Shard operation. But what had surprised Zev were the words Matias had used to address him directly. [break][break]

"'So you're the fucker Bee,' Silph said to me. As if he had known about you before that moment. Obviously," Zev added as he glanced sidelong at the Rocket admin, "he only had a general physical description, because you and I look nothing alike." [break][break]

The Beast paused to let the information sink in, then added as an afterthought: [break][break]

"He also said you're uglier than he'd imagined."

A hand rubbed at his jaw before tapering to a thoughtful finger at his lips. His eyes were forward and unfocused, now no longer looking to Zev Harcourt.[break][break]

How had MATIAS SILPH figured out his ROCKET identity? Now, after so many years?[break][break]

The only common denominator that made sense — given her recent prolonged intimacy with him — was Elisabeth Fiorelli.[break][break]

What could have possibly possessed the woman to do something so horrendously stupid?[break][break]

Suddenly, Barnaby's gaze snapped back to Zev.[break][break]

"Did Underboss Fiorelli hear him say all that to you?" He asked, the admin's usual composure now returning to him.

The anger on Bee's face simmered for longer than expected. Zev watched the admin digest the information, guessing at the thoughts running through his head. Bee was intelligent and cunning; Zev had no doubt he was reaching the most logical conclusion. [break][break]

That Elisabeth Fiorelli had been sloppy. That she was as much of a liability as an asset. [break][break]

"She did. And when I confronted her about it later, she said she had underestimated Silph's obsession with her, and he'd had her followed. She didn't tell me more than that," Zev said. [break][break]

While he did not normally care if a Rocket's affiliation was known or not—he himself had given up his pretenses—it behooved the crime syndicate to have members among their ranks who could walk unnoticed through society. [break][break]

Zev did not know Bee's public identity, but he would not be surprised if it proved highly advantageous. [break][break]

"I figured you might want to take certain precautions."

It didn't surprise him that Elisabeth Fiorelli had underestimated MATIAS SILPH's insanity. Every chapter of her life featured yet another man she foolishly welcomed in to wreak havoc. Why would now be any different?[break][break]

He'd hoped that the gravity of her mission would have kept her grounded, kept her from compromising ROCKET - compromising him — but BARNABY FINCH now saw how foolish that hope had been.[break][break]

She'd failed him. In one of the worst ways she possibly could have.[break][break]

Now an obsessed lunatic knew of his existence.[break][break]

"I will be, thank you." He replied to Zev Harcourt's mention of precautions before adding, "...I think I need a little bit more time to think on this."[break][break]

Alone, preferably. With that said, BARNABY FINCH clapped Zev amicably on his shoulder as me moved to continue down the futuristic street. [break][break]
